A retro basement that screamed Three’s Company was updated to a clean fresh space that is perfect to hang out in. Tweaking the floorplan to fit the lifestyle of this busy family was key. They wanted a space that was large enough to gather together and watch TV, play ping pong or floor hockey, and keep the crafts contained. A wood insert for keeping warm in the winters along with rolled metal shelving to store firewood adds a warm, cozy feel to the basement. Ample storage under the large seating hearth hides all the games and toys from sight!
An updated bedroom, bathroom and office/workout room completed the second half of the basement along with easy access storage to camping gear and ski gear to make packing a breeze!
The ceiling is spectacular and serves the purpose of style but also future access when a main floor renovation occurs.
Deepened basement windows with a tilt and turn function allows ample light all year and fresh air in the summer months.
Unseen features of this renovation are the sound proof ceilings and bedroom walls, the insulated slab, new weeping tile, new ground works (which the home owner is glad the completed as the old cast iron had disintegrated under the slab!), new electrical panel, spray foam walls and rim joists, and an HRV and duct work.
